Re: QRV: Are You Ready?, Welcome to Random Wire 189: Please don't change a thing. I came to amateur radio two years ago at age 73 - your newsletter ticks all of my boxes and then some. Thoroughly enjoy every issue. Please continue as you have been doing.

Best wishes,

Tom,

Thanks for the shout-out. Our friendship has come to mean a lot to me. I know you "get it" when I speak about my 45-minute caregiving sessions and how I must squeeze in time to operate a radio or problem-solve a computer glitch. I would likely have stayed inactive or off the air back in 1971 when my first Novice license expired if not for the ham radio community. Other nerds like me who enjoy talking about common interests and, even more important to me, personal and family stories. That's what keeps me coming back. The radios are important, sure. The computers as well. Yet, when my brain is full and I can't think about technology any longer, it's the people and their stories that keep me interested. And lately, it's about "giving back". So many have done that for me over 50 years. Now, it's my turn.

73, Paul

Your thoughts about how people look at their subscriptions, and the content they want, had me thinking about my own thoughts on RF and Technology. I happen to love it, and I cannot get enough of it. I look forward to this newsletter, and a few more every week.

But I also realize I'm in the minority with some groups with these thoughts: my own amateur radio club. They are very much a "contest" club, where digital and technology really do not have a place. I'm not a contest guy, and I don't think I ever will be. So there comes a point where you have to choose where you spend that precious free time to learn and grow. And thus I'm looking for a new club.

Here is hoping you do not change a thing. I love it.

Great feedback, thank you. I happen to love the mix of radio and tech, too. I do like the old radios...the glow of the tubes, the smell of the circuits heating up...but I only crank up my old radio once every couple of years. My HF daily driver is modern with an internal sound card, and my mobile rig is C4FM with APRS on VFO B. Most of all, I like exploring what could be done differently, and every once in a while, it turns out better than I expect.

Now I know the difference between qAR and qAC. I know I looked it up, but now it may stick. Thanks.

Lee, your comment made me smile, because that's just about what went through my mind as I churned through my digi logs!
