I've ordered an Icom ID-5100a to use as my test bed for remotely controlling a VHF/UHF radio with a Raspberry Pi. The radio (and reading the manual) comes first, then I'll track down a suitable RPi and appropriate cables. More to come as this progresses.
The Kenwood TM-V71A is such a radio. They’ve been discontinued by Kenwood but they often can be found new at various dealers if you’re patient. (Still in transit in shipping containers?)

Did you saw BTECH GMRS-PRO, VERO VR N75, VR n7500, Retevis RT99? All of them could be controlled by HT app .
Hope this could help.

As in this one at HRO? I can do that! https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-008951
That’s the one! It has an RS-232 port for remotely changing settings.
Looks like it has a DIN on the back that connects to a programming cable with a DB9: https://www.universal-radio.com/CATALOG/fm_txvrs/10420071.html Also this PC connection kit: https://www.universal-radio.com/CATALOG/fm_txvrs/26700071.html
I suspect this would work with a Remote Rig solution...and indeed, that seems to be the case: https://www.remoterig.com/wp/?page_id=453
While I wish they still made the D710GA (love that rig which lives in my car) the TM-V71A looks like a viable pathway forward. *Thank you*
This is a cable that has the RS-232 to USB built in:

Yes, TM-D710s we’re great radios.
